This drawing may relate to a painting of this period believed to be a portrait of Mrs. Irving Tow, a student of Rothko’s at the Young Women’s Hebrew Association of Mount Vernon, New York, where Rothko taught art classes to children and adults [Daily Argus (Mount Vernon, NY), October 1, 1930] (fig. 1).
